The City of Cape Town has urged residents to beware of a scammer impersonating the Member of the Mayoral Committee for Human Settlements, Malusi Booi, on social media platforms.

He says the fake account is asking residents to pay for housing opportunities.

Booi says the city does not ask for payment for residents to be placed on the housing register.

The fake accounts have been reported to the various social media platforms.

Booi has urged anyone who has been a victim of the scam to report to the police.

The City urges residents to be aware of scammers and reminds residents that they do not need to pay for a housing opportunity. Residents may report suspicious or illegal activity to SAPS for their investigation.
