Moshe Ndiki to headline event where gays and lesbians will splash N2 with colour

A street parade organised by Shevolution Africa, a women, youth and social rights movement, will add a splash of colour on the N2 in what the organisation calls “closing off Human Rights month in style”.

The LGBT community always struggles to get broader society to focus on the struggles of its members who are often targets of ridicule and violence.

Dubbed “We are human – We are normal”, the street parade takes place in Dutywa on 30 March.

“We decided to start with a street parade during the day whose objective is to foster understanding and acceptance of gays amongst the general public”, said Buhle Tonise, the founder and Chairperson of Shevolution Africa.

“Our movement has always been known as a strong voice in matters relating to social justice and this parade is the first event specifically dedicated to highlighting the rights of all individuals to adopt whatever sexual orientation they feel comfortable with”, added Tonise.

The parade will start at the BP Garage in Dutywa, along the N2 which is also the town’s main street, and end at The Village Lifestyle Centre, whereafter a celebration of gay rights will be held.

Celebrity TV personality Moshe Ndiki is set to headline the event. Entrance is free but those who want access to the VIP enclosure where food and drinks shall be served will pay R200.
