Government removes Azenathi as Acting King of AbaThembu, instructs him to vacate palace

The estranged son of King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo, Azenathi, who had been acting as King during the incareration of his father, has been instructed to vacate the Bumbane Great Place which is the seat of the AbaThembu Kingdom. He has also been instructed to return all government resources that were provided for his use, including mobile phones, motor vehicles and fuel cards. His pay cheque of the 15th of June was the last as acting King.

This was contained in a letter signed by the Eastern Cape Premier, Oscar Mabuyane.

Mabuyane wrote to Azenathi following a lengthy letter that Dalindyebo had written to the Premier in which he demanded that Mabuyane should terminate the acting capacity of Azenathi with immediate effect as “it was unlawful”.

The relationship between Dalindyebo and his son has been so frosty in the past few months since the King was released from prison that he took the drastic step of disowning his son. At one stage he refuted partenity and demanded that they go for a DNA test.

Dalindyebo expressed cautious pleasure that the Premier had finally taken action but stated that he will speak more when he has gone back to his Palace and throne. At the time of writing. Azenathi could not be reached for comment.
