The City of Cape Town has been named Africa’s best city brand. That’s according to the London-based brand evaluation consultancy firm, Brand Finance’s research.
Johannesburg is ranked number 72 in the world.
These inaugural rankings are based on a global survey of close to 15 000 people conducted from around the world.
The survey ranked London as the world’s top city.
Managing Director of Brand Finance Africa, Jeremy Sampson, says participants found that Cape Town’s tourism, business and diversity appealing.
“We produce 70 rankings a year, whether it’s countries with industry sectors and that sort of thing, and as you say this is the inaugural brand finance city index where we rank the top 100 cities in the world. That is based on research from 15 000 people in over 20 countries and as you say, getting into the top 100 is not easy and there are six brands from Africa. A split as the top three.”
