Police say they’ve shot dead one suspect and arrested 17 others following the hijacking of a truck carrying liquor worth R1.7-million in Gqaberha in the Eastern Cape yesterday.
Police followed up on information and found the men offloading the liquor at Windvogel.
They used tracker dogs to find some of the suspects who had fled to a nearby bush.
Officers seized items including a signal jammer and cell phones.
Provincial police commissioner Nomthetheleli Menehas commended the officers for making the arrests.
The 17 suspects will appear in court soon.
