Two children have died and one adult has been injured in a fire at the Fleurhoff Extension 5 informal settlement between Florida and Meadowlands on Sunday.

The Johannesburg Emergency Services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi says a candle which was left unattended caused the fire.

“City of Johannesburg Firefighters are currently attending to a multiple of shacks on fire which involves about 44 shacks in Fleurhoff Ext 5 informal settlement.”

Itireleng fire 

Last week, a shack fire left five children burnt beyond recognition in Itireleng informal settlement near Laudium in Pretoria.

They were the offspring of two mothers, who are sister, have since been taken into police custody.

The Chairperson of the Laudium Community Policing Forum has called for harsher charges against the two mothers who allegedly went partying, leaving the without any supervision.
